History of Halloween

Halloween was based off of the 2,000 year old Celtic festival of Samhain. Back then, they would where costumes and light bonfires to ward off lurking ghosts. Halloween is called Halloween because the day before All Saints’ Day, which is on November 1st, was called All Hallows’ Eve. All Hallows’ Eve eventually was just called Halloween. Another reason that children go trick or treating, wear costumes, and have Halloween parties is because as the temperature drops and the days shorten, people want to welcome winter. I hope you have a Halloween to remember!
